Can you change solicitor half way through the conveyancing process?

Conveyancing is the legal process of transferring property from one person to another. this usually happens when you buy a house, but it can also happen when you sell a house, or when you transfer ownership of a property to someone else.

During conveyancing, your conveyancer will deal with all the legal paperwork and will make sure that the transfer of ownership goes through smoothly. they will also liaise with the other parties involved in the transaction, such as your mortgage lender and the seller’s conveyancer.

If you want to change conveyancers during the buying process, you can do so without any problems. however, you should bear in mind that it may add extra time and cost to the transaction.

Speak to your original conveyancer and to the new conveyancer to see if they can work together to ensure a smooth transition. you may also want to get legal advice to make sure that everything is in order.

Changing conveyancers can be a bit of a hassle, but it’s usually worth it in the end. just make sure that you plan ahead and give yourself enough time to get everything done.

It is normally easier to change solicitors earlier on in the conveyancing processes but can be done even halfway through the conveyancing process.

In some cases, your original solicitor may not want to hand over your paperwork until they have been paid for the work they have already carried out.

If you are selling your property, then your new conveyancing solicitor should be able to get a copy of the title deed direct from the Land registry.

If you are buying a house then it should be easier to switch conveyancers, but you still need all the paperwork you have given them to pass to your new conveayncers.

At the end of the day if you have decided to move from your original conveyancer there must be a good reason for this, which can include slow service, or you may have lost confidence in their ability to carry out their duties successfully.

Before you consider switching your conveyancer speak to them and explain your concerns and if they cannot be resolved, speak to your new conveyancing solicitors about how they can assist you with the transfer of conveyancing.
